Gwen Abney-Cunningham, LMSW, assisted with developing the Center for DBT Services at InterAct of Michigan, Inc. She is Evidenced Based Practices Director and oversees several evidenced programs including the DBT program at InterAct.

Her expertise in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is evidenced by her being a Certified Clinician by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification. She provides direct individual therapy and skills training to adolescents and adults. She also leads the DBT team and provides regular peer consultation and supervision for her team of therapists, an important aspect of preventing burnout.

Through her leadership, the Center for DBT Services was one of the first in the world to receive certification by the DBT-Linehan Board. This certification, awarded after extensive and rigorous review, demonstrates The Center for DBT Services program offers comprehensive delivery of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and that each clinician offers sessions of high fidelity.

Abney Cunningham has also assisted with the implementation of many DBT programs in the Public Mental Health System in Michigan. She currently assists with providing consultation for many DBT programs in Michigan.

Gwen Abney-Cunningham is a trainer with Marsha Linehan’s organization, Behavioural Tech, and has offered her expertise to this organization’s Trainer Advisory Committee and Implementation Science Workgroup. She has provided DBT training and consultation to many organizations throughout the country.

With a background as a clinical social worker, Gwen Abney-Cunningham has worked at InterAct of Michigan for three decades.
